Below is what RingCentral reported, how the business makes money, why the AI numbers drew attention, and what comes next.

Why the AI Numbers Matter

Company statements: RingCentral said annual recurring revenue (ARR) from customers using at least one of its paid AI products is approaching 15% of total ARR, roughly double a year earlier. On the earnings call, executives put that figure at more than $400 million. They said its AI Receptionist (AIR) has more than 22,000 customers and that AI-adopting customer groups show net retention above 100%.

During the quarter, RingCentral also launched plugins for ChatGPT and Claude, along with connectors that let large language models use voice, SMS and chat data from its platform.

“Voice is central to the next wave of AI innovation, and RingCentral is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation.” — Vlad Shmunis, founder, chairman and CEO (company release)

Analysis: Overall revenue growth is still in the mid-single digits. The AI figures matter to investors because they show whether paid AI tools can push spending per customer higher in a mature business-phone market. RingCentral’s own data so far points that way, but the company has not broken out AI revenue as a separate line item.

Company Background

RingCentral, based in Belmont, California, sells cloud-based business communications. Its products include phone systems (RingEX), contact-center software (RingCX), video meetings and AI tools such as AI Receptionist. About 97% of its revenue comes from subscriptions. The company sells directly and through carriers and channel partners, and recently added wholesale partners in New Zealand and Italy, according to its release.

Context: A Rebound After a Rough Week for Tech

RingCentral shares closed Thursday’s regular session at $79.42, down 3.6%, during a broad sell-off in technology and semiconductor stocks. After the results, the stock rose about 14% after hours to roughly $90.90, above its prior 52-week high of $83.72 (Investing.com). The gain stood out in a week when worries about AI spending weighed on much of the tech sector.
