Government and Policy: Fiscal Year Turns Over Under a Stopgap
Verified: Federal fiscal year 2026 ends Wednesday, September 30, and FY2027 begins Thursday, October 1. The deadline passes without a shutdown. President Trump signed the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027 in early September. It funds the government through December 11, 2026. The House passed the measure 370–48 on September 1, Nextgov/FCW reported, after the Senate approved it 90–6. Congress still has to pass full-year FY2027 appropriations bills before the December deadline.
Supreme Court: The Court opens its October 2026 term on Monday, October 5, the day after this preview window closes. The first case argued is Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) v. Commissioners of Boulder County, according to SCOTUSblog.
